Service from the Heart (Part 2)

In my previous post "Service from the Heart" dated 25 Jan 2011, I wrote about how I interacted with the passengers on a flight from Melbourne-Singapore.

Today, I am blogging with the same title again, but this time it is on a different flight, Zurich-Singapore. I just touched down into Singapore 3 hours ago. Actually I should be resting now after the 12-hour flight, but I decided to blog now before sleeping so that I could capture what's in my mind.

A while after take-off, this 94 year-old lady said she felt cold when I passed by her seat and she requested for one more pair of socks in addition to the one that she was already wearing.

After listening, immediately I knew what I could do to ease her discomfort.

I politely excused myself for a moment, and came back to her with the additional pair of socks she requested. But that's not all. I also got an additional blanket as well as a cup of warm water.

12-hour journey in an aircraft is very long and can be very uncomfortable for some people, especially the aged. I talked to the old lady and served her like how hope my granny would be treated by the crew if she were to be on a flight too.

Throughout the flight, I spoke to her every now and then and checked on her well-being.

Finally when we landed, I helped her to pull the luggage, saw her to the aircraft door and bade her farewell. Before she left, she held my hand with both of hers, and gave me the heartiest handshake.

"谢谢你,郭先生,谢谢你,谢谢。"

("Thank you, Mr Quek, thank you. Thank you.")

It warmed my heart on the spot.

One day, she might forget how I look. She might also forget my surname. But that's not important.

What matters most to me is...she disembarked with a smile on her face. And that is my best reward, knowing that I have done a good job in ensuring that the long flight was pleasant for her.
